Transforming Suffering Into Creative Living, Healing & Growth

Services

All of my clients have unique issues and circumstances that cause them to seek the help they need to manage their daily lives. My compassion focused approach to therapy is designed to help create sustainable approaches for coping with grief and relationships. I specialize in working with adults in chronic illness, divorce, family conflict, life transitions, stress, women’s issues, mental health, and elderly persons disorders.

Dialectical (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the treatment most closely associated with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The goal of Dialectical Behavior Therapy is to alleviate the intense emotional pain associated with BPD.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT)

For clients with chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, and other health issues such as anxiety and depression, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, or MBCT, is a two-part therapy that aims to reduce stress, manage pain, and embrace the freedom to respond to situations by choice. MCBT blends two disciplines — cognitive therapy and mindfulness.

Neuro-Linguistic

Neuro-Linguistic therapy assumes there is a connection between the mind's processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavioral patterns learned through experience ("programming") and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals. We will analyze the detail of your words and phrases used to describe your issues in order to understand the underlying cause. We will then remodel those thoughts and associations in order to reframe or re-progam your preconceptions for better outcomes.

Solution Focused Brief (SFBT)

Solution-focused therapy, sometimes called "brief therapy," focuses on what you would like to achieve through therapy rather than on your troubles or mental health issues. I will help you envision a desirable future, and then map out the small and large changes necessary to realize it.

Emotionally Focused

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach to therapy that helps clients identify their emotions, learn to explore and experience them, to understand them and then to manage them. Emotionally Focused Therapy embraces the idea that emotions can be changed, first by arriving at or 'living' the maladaptive emotion (e.g. loss, fear or shame) in session, and then learning to transform it.

Interpersonal (IPT)

With IPT therapy we will identify the issues and problems of your interpersonal relationships. We will explore your life history to help recognize problem areas and then work toward ways to rectify them.

Relational

Relational life therapy offers strategies to combat marital dysfunction and restore harmony in relationships. Couples — those recovering from affairs, traumatic events, or a lull in passion — can find RLT helpful. To repair discord, we will identify the main conflict upsetting your emotional intimacy and improve the ways in which you will relate to each other.

Strength-Based

Strength-based therapy is a type of positive psychotherapy and counseling that focuses more on your internal strengths and resourcefulness, and less on weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. This focus sets up a positive mindset that helps you build on you best qualities, find your strengths, improve resilience and change worldview to one that is more positive.

DBT Group Therapy

These sessions seek to teach individuals dealing with suffering caused by negative thought processes valuable self-management skills necessary for creating awareness, calmness, and change.

After a long and diverse career, I am choosing to focus on clients who are experiencing suffering due to grief, loss, caregiving a loved one or transitioning into a new phase of life. I have a deep understanding of the emotional dysregulation that is caused by these experiences. My hope is to teach others the skills needed to lessen suffering, stay present and reduce stress .

I have worked in a variety of settings and have experience with a diverse population of people. From teaching at a University to working with Foster youth and then 15 years in a large Mental Health clinic, I use evidence based cognitive behavioral therapies such as DBT, Narrative, Solution Focus and Mindfulness based strategies in my work.

Transform suffering to healing, creative living, and growth. Learn the skills needed to create the life you deserve and get the support you need to navigate life's detours.

Life can be challenging bringing suffering, grief, loss and emotional upheavals.

With my guidance, I will, teach and help you explore the process of transforming into the person you want to be and support you on the path that you envision.

I do this by teaching you skills and exercises  that will help you to control painful emotions, create boundaries in your relationships with others and yourself. Mindful consciousness increases our ability to fulfill our goals, wishes, and build confidence in how we conduct our lives. Mindfulness helps us to create calmness around us when we feel chaos. I have been teaching, guiding and helping people combat anxiety, depression, and grief for over 20 years. My long and diversified career includes. College Professor, Child Protective Service Social Worker, Director of a Foster Care Agency and Psychotherapist.  Having worked in  a variety of settings has given me the opportunity to understand  diverse populations. My experiences  with children, families, women, couples and adults who are suffering from  a multitude  of mental health  issues and life circumstances has taught me empathy and understanding. At this point in my career I am  wanting to help adults who are struggling with complicated grief, life transitions, relational problems and issues surrounding getting older

I have developed a deeper understanding of the issues involved in  caregiving and navigating the medical world through my own experiences of grief and loss . I want to pass my insight and knowledge to others in the hope that their journey will have less suffering and bring more joy. My mission is to help people not just survive life’s transitions but give them the skills to grow and enjoy life as it is meant to be.
